What is ACL? Know Access Control List in 1 Minute

Access control lists are network traffic filters placed on the edges of the router that control the outgoing and incoming traffic by blocking packets at the router interface. ACL is configured on an interface, the data flowing in an interface is compared with the ACL statement and if the criteria are met then the packets can be transferred and if the criteria are not met then packets cannot be transferred. ACLs are commonly used in routers and firewalls as well as it is also known as stateless firewall that restricts, block, and allows packets from source to destination. Mainly there are two types of ACL that are Standard ACL and Extended ACL. If we use standard ACL we should block all services but in extended ACL we can block specific services.

Impact of Access Control List(ACL) on security

ACL provides a basic level of security to the network. They are not complex but provide a significant amount of security. In a bank, the main role of ACL is to allow or block the packets according to the criteria of the ACLs statement. Not only that, the packets of a single or group of IP addresses can also be filtered by using ACLs. They can restrict, permit or deny traffic which is essential for security. The flow of packets of the protocol such as UDP and TCP is also controlled.
